History of Grace Chapel

In the Beginning

Grace Chapel was birthed out of small group of individuals meeting weekly for prayer and fellowship.  Ironically, none of the individuals had any personal ambitions to ever start a new church.  However, through faithful prayer and worship together God revealed His will and a vision for Grace Chapel began to take shape.

In the fall of 1998 God miraculously provided two buildings to make the vision become a reality.  Before any service was ever held the small team purchased an office building on Boberg Road and slowly converted it into a usable facility for offices and small group meetings.  The team also leased space for worship at a nearby business facility and began transforming it into a comfortable sanctuary.

Opening Day

On November 1st, 1998 Grace Chapel held it first service at the Orepac building in Wilsonville, Oregon.  No one could have imagined that over 200 people would show up that first Sunday.  Within two years a second service was launched on Sunday mornings.  A third service began on Saturday night in the fall of 2005.

In the Community

Within the first few weeks of existence Grace Chapel made a critical decision to actively take part in a Wilsonville community event that was then called Boones Ferry Days.  This was the beginning of one of the hallmarks of Grace Chapel which is to be a church that makes a difference in their community and positively impacts people for Jesus Christ.  Today Boones Ferry Days has now transformed into “Fun in the Park”, an event that is a cooperative effort of hundreds of volunteers from Grace Chapel, other churches, multiple businesses, and people throughout the community of Wilsonville.  At this yearly event thousands of people come together and are tangibly impacted by the love of Christ in a fun carnival-like atmosphere.

Grace Chapel continues to desire to impact the community for Jesus through several ministries like vacation Bible school, Christmas events, community groups, and various youth activities.

Multiplication

From the beginning Grace Chapel had a vision to be a church that birthed other churches.  In the fall of 2005, Grace Chapel helped to plant a new church called Southgate Chapel - located just south of Wilsonville in Canby, Oregon.  Many individuals and families were sent out from Grace Chapel to join this vision to launch a like-minded church in a new community with the hope of reaching people for Jesus Christ.

In addition to planting a new church, Grace Chapel has financially partnered with Africa New Life Ministries to build an orphanage in Rwanda.  Teams of people are being sent out on short-term mission’s trips to minister within the orphanage.

Mission

The mission of Grace Chapel is “to know Christ and to make Him known”.  Lord willing this will never just be a slogan on our wall but a continued standard by which we measure everything that we do.
