May Justice Reign 2012

What is the role of the church in fighting the injustices of the world? How does loving my neighbor relate to God’s heart for justice? How does the Bible define justice? How do we move beyond compassion to justice? This is our second year to set aside the entire month of May to discuss questions like these, learn about God’s heart for justice and step into places He asks the church to be involved.  At Grace Chapel, our cause is to experience and express the essence of Jesus and this is fully realized as we step into the vulnerable, marginalized and risky places of injustice.

Part 1: Like a Good Neighbor

You know the jingle, “Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there.”  What does it look like for us to be a good neighbor and be there to meet the needs of our neighbor.  In this teaching, we look at the good samaritan as an example to see the need, be moved by the need, and respond to the need.

Part 2: Abraham’s Justice

Beginning with Creation and jumping all the way to 2 Corinthians, Dr. Gerry Breshears walks us through some basic tenants to Biblical justice.  Challenging the idea of the American Dream, Dr. Breshears looks at how the Bible calls us to disadvantage ourselves  for the sake of the “worthless” person.

Part 3: Being Light

A familiar passage, “You are the light of the world” is how Jake challenged us on Sunday as we engaged our community.  As a community, we quickly gathered to be scattered in our community to work and be a light

Part 4: Jesus & Justice

Looking at Luke 4, Pastor Jake investigates how Jesus addressed both social and spiritual concerns.  In this teaching, Jake has us look at how we can be positioned to effect positive change in both of those areas.
